ABOUT US
We are a full service, independent book store on Nantucket Island, MA. We pride ourselves on a long tradition of personalized attention to our customers. In addition to our carefully selected stock of titles in all areas, Mitchell's Book Corner offers the most extensive selection of books available about Nantucket, whaling, and the island's genealogy.
Mitchell's Book Corner was established in June of 1968 by Henry "Mitch" Mitchell Havemeyer and Mary Allen Sargent Havemeyer. The Havemeyers had summered on Nantucket for ten years or so and wanted to move from suburban New York to Nantucket full-time. So they purchased 54 Main Street, an 1846 brick building located on the corner of Orange Street, and refurbished the main floor for book and record sales. Although Mitch died in 1975 and Mary Allen in 1978, daughter Mimi (Mary Chilton Havemeyer Beman) continued the business for 30 more years until its sale to Wendy Schmidt in 2008. In 2012, Mitchell's and Nantucket Bookworks teamed up as sister stores to work together serving the island's literary needs for the 21st Century.
These days, we are pleased to say that MBC's standard of impeccable customer service paired with a carefully considered selection of titles continues...
